What a request costs [#what-a-request-costs]

One credit is one page of Reddit:

| Request | Credits |

| A running [monitor](/monitors), per day | 10 |

* A post request asks for 200 comments unless you set `max_comments`, so it costs 1 credit. `max_comments=1000` costs at most 6.
* You pay for the comments a response returns, not for the requests threadapi makes to produce it. Retries on our side are never billed.
* A response served from cache costs the same as a fresh one.
* If your balance covers fewer pages than you asked for, you get what it covers and `meta.limited_by_balance` is `true`. The balance never goes below zero.
* MCP tool calls cost the same as the routes they call. The playground in the dashboard is billed like a key.
* `X-Credits-Used` on every successful response says what it cost; the [logs](https://stage.threadapi.dev/app/logs?utm_source=docs) list each request.

Monitors [#monitors]

A [monitor](/monitors) charges 10 credits when you create or resume it, then 10 every 24 hours while it runs. Pausing or deleting it stops the charges. When a renewal finds less than 10 credits, the monitor stops until you add credits and resume it.

How many monitors you can run depends on the largest pack you've bought:

| | Monitors | Matches per monitor per day |
| :------- | -------: | --------------------------: |
| Free | 1 | 200 |
| $9 pack | 10 | 1,000 |
| $29 pack | 50 | 1,000 |
| $79 pack | 100 | 1,000 |

Low-balance emails say how many days your running monitors have left.
